SpotOn Nova vs Omni Comparison
Fit and Size
Edge: SpotOn Nova GPS Dog Fence Collar
The SpotOn Nova fits necks from 10 to 26 inches, making it suitable for smaller and medium dogs as well as larger breeds. It weighs 13.4 ounces and measures 1 inch wide. The SpotOn Omni is explicitly labeled for large dogs, covering neck sizes from 19 to 26 inches. It is available in gray, while the Nova is black. If your dog has a neck size under 19 inches, the Omni data does not confirm fit, whereas the Nova explicitly includes smaller sizes. Choose the Nova for versatility in sizing.
Boundary Precision
Edge: Tie
Both systems use dual-band, dual-feed GPS technology to track the collar and fenceline in real time. The SpotOn Nova emphasizes dependable signal performance in dense tree cover and low-signal areas, supported by independent third-party testing. The SpotOn Omni connects to 128 satellites and uses top-of-the-line dual-feed GPS antenna technology for precise boundaries in heavy woods. Both claim high accuracy for uneven or wooded terrain. Since both utilize similar advanced GPS hardware for boundary creation, neither has a clear technical advantage in precision specs.
Correction Options
Edge: SpotOn Omni Large Gray GPS Collar
The SpotOn Omni offers 30 levels of optional static correction and vibration, along with two alert tones for boundary warnings. The product data for the SpotOn Nova does not list specific correction modes or stimulation levels. While both are app-controlled, the Omni provides detailed control over correction intensity and types. If you require specific vibration or static correction settings, the Omni data explicitly supports these features. The Nova's data omits these specifics, making the Omni the clearer choice for customizable correction.
Battery and Runtime
Edge: SpotOn Omni Large Gray GPS Collar
The SpotOn Omni provides detailed battery specifications. Without a subscription, the rechargeable battery offers 40+ hours of runtime. With a subscription, you get 25+ hours, or 35+ hours in Extended Battery Life Mode. The SpotOn Nova data does not list battery capacity or runtime hours. While both systems are app-connected, the Omni gives you clear expectations for usage duration. If long-term off-grid use is a priority, the Omni's documented battery life is a practical advantage over the Nova's unspecified power details.
Waterproof Rating
Edge: SpotOn Omni Large Gray GPS Collar
The SpotOn Omni is rated IP67 for waterproofing, meaning it is protected against rain, snow, and swimming. The product data for the SpotOn Nova does not mention a waterproof rating or ingress protection level. Both are designed for outdoor use, but the Omni explicitly guarantees performance in water and tricky terrain. If your dog swims or plays in heavy rain, the Omni's IP67 rating provides verified protection. The Nova lacks this specific durability data in its published specs.
Special Features
Edge: SpotOn Omni Large Gray GPS Collar
The SpotOn Omni includes an Off-Grid mode, allowing you to create fences without cell service or internet access. It also supports overlapping fences, which share GPS coordinates. The SpotOn Nova highlights customizable fences and keep-out zones but does not mention Off-Grid capability or overlapping fence support. If you frequently travel to areas without connectivity or have complex property layouts, the Omni's unique features offer more flexibility. The Nova focuses on standard app control without these advanced offline capabilities.
